This is an abandoned rail line that runs east west for 2.7 miles, between Pulaski and Ashland Avenues. The Bloomingdale Trail and proposed active entry points onto the raised line, celebrate the reactivation of this ‘odd lot’ of unused spaces within the city.
I believe that creating a farm site for the entire length of the line, is an active and productive way of exploiting the line. I see the line as a spine through the city, connecting various neighbor-hoods, people, cultures and activities. Through the analysis of the site, I focused my attention on the immediate surrounding context as well as the ways of accessing the trail. I am proposing an access point at every quarter of a mile, arguing that people using the trail are exercising, gardening, biking, or leisurely meandering.
